Hey, beaver. My pops is a powder coater and when I done my front end, I wanted to do the dash too, and He said He couldnt do it because its not metal. Its just plastic thats sprayed like chrome. He said, I could have it painted, But Sh**, I can do that myself. Look up Bulldog and SEM products if thats what you decide on. Bulldog makes a adhesive spray and then use SEM color coat. Thats what autobody guys use and upholstery guys, you know, the professionals. Thats what my pops recommends.

I've seen speedos pc'd, but as far as the extension goes, some are billet and some are hard plastic. The one with the grooves that looks like an extension of the stock speedo is plastic. HD makes a solid Chrome one that is billet aluminum which could be pc'd.

I had mine coated, and painted the extension..
PC is holding up fine--and looks great, got some gas on the extension and bubbled all the paint off.
Threw the extension away, looks way better without it.
look in my profile pics--I think you can see the dash there.

HD should sell the thing in black, anyway.

The part of the dash with the speedo and the ignition is metal, the lower extension is plastic.

I did the whole Buldog thing to the lower part, but it did not take the paint very well. Paint never seemed to cure and bubbled up first time a little gas got on it.

The whole process
1. Wash Lower dash panel, with a mild soap.
2. Spray Bulldog adhesive, Let cure for 3-5 mins, reapply a second coat.
3. Dont allow bulldog to dry all the way, apply First coat of SEM. (they make 50 colors).
4. Apply several coats of SEM to dash panel.
5. Let cure for 24 hours. I do not recommend letting Gas come in contact W/Dash Panel.

My dad has his Lower dash panel painted for 3 years and it doesnt look any different.
You dont have to use the Bulldog adhesive, The SEM color coat paint will hold on its on.
Beavers, if it starts to fade, just take it off and redo the process. No Worries Bro.
