Default windshield

My wife just bought me a standard height detatchable windsheild for my new 06 Fatboy. So I put it on and took it out for a test run. It has been getting cold here lately and I thought it would allow me to ride more this winter. At about 65mph my helmet really started to get buffeted around. By 80mph my head was shaking so much I could hardly see. I'm 6'2" tall so maybe I just need the taller windshield. Do they make one? Anyone else have this problem or is it just a fact of windsheilds? I'm no pysicist but it seems as though the wind is coming over the top of the lexan and hitting me in the head! Jim

Yes, that is the reason, I'm 6'3' I can tell...

Don't get the whole windshield, just get the TALL Lexan replacement, it uses the same harness than your current windshield

Best regards.

Hi,

No, actually most of the time I look over the windshield (one of the "advantages" of being 6'3') so the bag is no problem. It comes pretty handy since it is the only storage I have when riding in town.

Regards.

You might look into some wind deflectors. I had a lot of buffeting with my windshield which I cut off about 2 1/2". I tried a regular size ws again but with my height, 6 ft. , the top of it was right in my line of sight. I like to easily see over the ws. Anyway I put a set of HD lower air deflectors on and they almost totally eliminated the buffeting, money well spent. A lot of the buffeting is coming from the air that is forced under the ws and comes up around the tank at hits your head. It may not be a cure for your problem, but they sure helped mine. Buffeting is really a pain. Hope you find a solution.

Hey James, I did the very same thing. I bought a standard height windshield from my stealer, brought it home and put it on in about 15 minutes. About 15 minutes later, it was off the bike and back in the box. Couldn't stand it. I am 5'11" and couldn't see over it to save myself and couldn't see through it either. Everything distorted. Secondly, the wind was so strong that my helmet wanted to rip my head off, my glasses were blowing around and I thought the front of my jacket was going to go right up over the top of my head. Didn't know what to do, so I took it back today and got a refund. Does anyone know if the wind deflectors down below are also detachable or do they install permanent? thanks,
BA

Spent alot of time researching the right height for a windshield. The best direction for me was to cut the windshield down to the same height as the tip of your nose. This will allow you to see over it and break most of the wind. You will still experience refreshing wind to the face but not the intense helmet buffeting. This has worked great for me - I hope it helps you.

Im 6'2 and if I raise my head up about 2 inches Im in the air stream and get the buffeting your talking about. So I would say raise the shield. I installed the wind deflectors and this helps even more, especially wind on your legs. I took them off again because the motor was breaking in and it raised the temp about 20 degrees. now that the weather is cooler will be putting them back on. Hey they look cool to.

I have the Low Profile HD Tinted windshield on my Fat Boy, it is 3" lower than standard (17") I am 6'3" and the top of the wind shield is between my chin and nose and I have no buffeting, only some wind but not that much. I tried a 15 " from Cee baily and it gave me buffeting.
The top of the shield at my chin seems to work great for me I could ride with out googles if I wanted to chance it the wind is so little.

Most of my riding is a freeway speed.
