Default Braided Clutch Cable

Well today I replaced my stock break line with a braided steel cable. I picked up some protective covers for the tank and front fender since my bike uses DOT 4 break fluid and that eats through paint really easily. The install went well and it took a while to bleed the break. I think im going to switch to floating roters when I need some new ones, doent seem like theres quite enough stoping power in the stock front break. Next up is the braided clutch cable. I have V&H staggered big shots and I was wondering if you have to take the pipes off to get the trany cover off to replace the cable. It really wouldnt be a big deal to take the pipes off but it would be nice if I could save some install time. The other question I have is how much does the trany take? I know im going to have to drain and replace it to replace the clutch cable. Thanks in advance guys.

Chris

I did the same thing with my '06 night train this weekend, with big radius pipes. I did remove the pipes to gain access - made the job a lot easier, especially since it was my first one on a Harley. It's not hard to do actually, just being able to see everything helped. The tranny holds about 24oz fluid. Also, get a new gasket for the cover, and don't forget the "o" ring.

Have a beer and see how good it looks.

When I did mine I did not have to remove the pipes but from the picture of yours it looks like you most likely have to. I have diferent V&H pipes than you and my rear pipe goes over the top of the tranny cover. As mentioned above, it's pretty sraight forwad and easy. Little work - big payoff.

Yes you do have to remove your exhaust to get to your tranny cover. I have the Python Staggard duals which is the same as the V&H bigshot staggards. I also have to take off my right floor board to remove the front pipe.

Like you said its not hard and only adds a little bit of time to the install. Good luck.
