Default Need help with Heritage Backrest

Can anyone tell me how to remove the Concho/Leather panel on the back of a Heritage Backrest?

Just by looking, seems like you can take the pad off and get to the tangs on the other side of the tan leather. Just a guess.

That's the problem, you can't get the pad off. The Pad is held on by another screw that is behind the Leather panel.

Untie the concho.....The one I had years ago had the screw behind it.

Yep, and the leather is held on by some NASTY double stick tape. Use a blow drier to warm it up, and I used a paint stick which I sanded to a sharper blade edge to pry it off.

Use Goo-gone liberally to get the rest of the crap off.

You will find that the screw is a normal philips head screw. I wanted to put an HD medallion back there, so I had to use a 1/2" counter sinking bit to countersink the hole and I used a countersunk screw so that it would be flush to the back plate.

The last picture was before I cleaned it up, but you get the idea.

If I recall correctly, the concho is held on with some strings which go behind the leather, I believe I pried the concho a bit with a screwdriver then while it was pried open a bit I cut the strings with a utility knife.
