Default Softail fit

Got some seat/handlebar questions concerning fit and, as I can't find an example in my AO, I'd appreciate advice from the forum.

I'm 6 ft, 210 lbs, with a 32" inseam and 34" sleeve length. I ride an 07 FXSTC (stock seat, bars, etc). I'd like to make some changes, and I'm hoping there's someone out there that can match my dimensions/choices and provide input, good or bad, or make suggestions.

I'm lowering the bike with the H-D lowering kit and going with a Lepara Barebones. For now I'm sticking with the factory Mini-Apes, but would like to switch to H-D's Street Slammer bar. Comfort is not a major issue as I unfortunately don't get to ride as often as I'd like, but I'd like to avoid lower back pain and other "reach" issues. If I go with the Street Slammer and go back to the factory seat, will that cause any issues? Anything I haven't thought of?

Thanks!

JC

I'm 5'11", 180 lbs, with a 34" inseam and 34" sleeve length. When my Night Train was stock it had drag bars. I liked the look and I could ride just fine for about an hour or two. After that I would start getting pain in my shoulder blades, discomfort in my lower back, and numbness in my hands. I changed to an HD Brawler solo seat (more padded than a bare bones) and there was not much difference. Adding 3 inch arlen ness forward extensions was a major improvement. Adding 8 inch risers helped with back pain. Switching to 8 inch z-bars on 1 inch risers got rid of back issues and extended comfort to 5 hours but I didn't like the look near as much as the drag bars. Just switched to 14" apes but I haven't ridden more than hour to see how they feel. So far they feel great.

I have been using the Street Slammers for a long time and really like them. That seat will more than likely be the limiting factor on comfort. Tried a lot of seats until I found the Mustang Solo. I had the stock seat, Danny Grey Buttcrack and one other and they all just killed my lower back.

Still have the Danny Grey and the stock seat if anyone is looking for one.

I think you are on the tight track, but a couple of things to keep in mind.
  1. A seat that sets you lower in the bike is of no benefit for a tall guy because it also moves you closer to the foot controls.
  2. Street Slammers are nice, but they either work for you or they don't, since there is no adjustment.
