Good deal...make sure you used red locktite on the new dock hw bolts - don't want them coming loose.

I may be missing something here but this doesn't sound right. Your bolts should be against the outside of the docking hardware, not sticking out past it.

I agree! If the bolts are too long he needs to either cut them or buy shorter bolts. The bolts with hardware attached need to be torqued down to where the end of the bolts are flush with the inside of the fender brackets.

I went with what they suggested:Hi,

The docking kit is:
53930-03 with saddlebags
53932-03A without saddlebags

If you do not have saddlebags now and plan on getting them later you should get 53930-03.

The 03. Leaving the bolt flush at the fender gives me almost an inch past the Sissy bar sticking out on the sides.

Okay, then I was indeed missing something. Didn't realize you were installing these w/o saddlebags.

Hmmm, well, ok....I guess I still don't understand. When you said you backed out the bolts to make the ends flush with the inside of the fender you opened a 1" gap between the sissy bar docking point and bolt head. What takes up this gap, a spacer or another docking point? Are the bolt threads showing? Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to tell you how to install this, it just sounds like it could be unsafe.

I didn't think of that Gooberdog. Too bad we don't have a picture. One other thing that came to mind is that if he ever plans on taking these bolts out he shouldn't use Red locktite.

Something is wrong here, there should be no gap and the screws should not stick inside the fender.
(1) Which sideplate or one piece sissy bar do you have?
(2) Which docking kit do you have?
(3) What are you trying to put on now?
(4) What do you want to put on later?
(5) Do you want to use the "quick detach" accessories?

Maybe his description is a bit misleading and he's good to go, and you're right about the locktite. Like they say, "A picture is worth a thousand words".
