Ok, you guys made putting the battery Tender on easy so I figured why not do this as well.
I assume its as easy as unscrewing the bolts on the chrome trim and screwing in the new extenders that hold the sissy bar. Those Diamond shaped heads on the existing fender do not want to budge though. Just try harder? Or is there a trick before I break something.
This is going on 53930-03 For the Sissy bar.
First off you need the right tools for the job. They should tork(sp??) button heads on your bike from the factory. They do have loctite on them from the factory, so you may have to get the hair drier out and heat it up before trying to break it loose.
Take your time, and come back and ask questions if you cant get it done.
It means your not gettin them off, unless you break the lock tite free. They are a BIATCH to get off. Be careful not to scratch anything, because your gonna get pissed.... Good luck
They should tork(sp??) button heads on your bike from the factory. ??
What does this mean? Thanks
They are Torx heads - you will need some Torx bits or wrenches to get them off. I don't know if they are all the same size, but I think mine are T45 Torx. You can get individual or sets of Torx bits at any hardware store.
For the loctite, they may need to be heated (I just took out 4 to put on my toolboxes and they didn't, but you never know). I'd probably put a soldering iron in the middle for a few seconds to heat them, but that may not be the best way.
They will come out, just make sure you have the right size bit. Keep your fingers behind the fender as they come loose so you can remember how that clip on the rear one goes back.
Get a 1/2" breaker bar with the correct torx bit and have at it. The 1/2" bar will give you plenty of leverage to get them off. Don't have a 1/2" bar then put a pipe on the end of the 3/8" ratchet or the "L" shape torx wrench.
Ok, I need help. Got the right Star 45 and they came off with a good umph. The new docking hardware though seems really long. When I screw the bolt on it sticks out inside the fender a good inch and very close to the tire. It seems like one good bump and that would cause a flat. Whats up?
So I loosened them back out until they felt flush and left the long part out past the quick detach sissy bar. Put on the sissy bar and its solid so I guess it all good.
