I will take a pic tonight.
Wanted to install One Piece Detachable Sissy bar 53618-05. Was recommended to use this docking hardware as per HD site and especially if I may add bags later 53930-03 with saddlebags.
Yes, may add Saddlebags, but not now.

Removed star screw (fairly short), installed longer new bolt with piece that sissbar clamps on to. 1" extar space which I now backed up leaving inside the fender flush but an extra in then stcks out past the sissy bar. Now I think thats what the bags must attach to. The Sissy bar is not only on really good but seems far from detachabel : o

What takes up this gap, a spacer or another docking point? Are the bolt threads showing?

Nothing takes up the gap. Without the sissy bar the mounting washer that the sissy bar bites on to would slide back and forth a bit. With the sissy bar on, ot all holds very tight.

Gonna have to look at the thread location again when I take a pic tonight.

You're right that the bolt shouldn't protrude past the nut plate on the inside of the fender. I installed the same kit 53930-03 on my wife's Deluxe but she has saddlebags.

Besides looking like crap seems to me that in your application the black plastic docking rings would have lateral movement. I don't know how or whether this would affect the safety/use of the sissy bar...................

But here is the best solution to your problem until you get saddlebags imo: The rear docking point on my Heritage isn't used to attach the saddlebags so it should be identical to your non saddlebag application. It uses a chrome Hex head screw 3/8-16x1.75in.. It is a service part for my docking kit so your dealer can get it. It is part #4246. Chicago Harley lists the retail price of these @ $1.45 each.

To have both the detachable one piece sissy bar and the detachable bags you need two docking kits. The one you have and part # 53075-03. I could be wrong but that is whet I am reading in the big 2011 book. That is for the detachable sideplates and hard saddlebags. Look at the picture on page 232 lower photo. It shows what you need to have two detachable parts.

You should go look at the other new docking point post. I put a picture in there of mine. First the "star bolts" are called Torx bolts. Second if you got the kit to install bags in the future (with your bar attatched) you will have two (2) docking points, per bolt. You may only use one docking point for now but you either have to have both installed or go to the shorter bolt kit... You cannot have any play in these bolts! https://www.hdforums.com/forum/softa...-brackets.html I see you have already been there, go back and check it out.

Definitely gotta change those bolts out. You're learning early that few mods ever go according to plan. Least you haven't striped or busted off anything.
