Rain Gear Help Needed
HD Forums does not seem to have a forum for clothing questions so I will post this here and hope it is okay. If this should be posted elsewhere, my apology and just let me know where and I will move it.
This is probably a silly question so please forgive my ignorance. A friend and I are planning a long ride this coming June so for Christmas I got rain gear. Specifically, I got Frogg Toggs brand Road Toad pants and jacket and Frogg Leggs knee high rain boots/leggings. So here is my question. Should the pants be worn outside of the boot/leggings or the boot/leggings on the outside of the pants? It would appear there are advantages to each. The pants are polypropylene and will instantly melt if they touch the pipe heatshield. The boots/leggings are knee high and made from nylon which will not melt if they touch the pipe heatshield. To protect from the heat, it would seem that the boot/legging should be on the outside. To best keep water from running down the outside of the pant leg and into the inside of the boot/legging, it would seem best to have the pants on the outside.
What is the "right" way to wear these pants and boot/leggings?
If the pant leg is on the outside, how can I prevent them from melting when they touch the pipe heatshield?
Thanks for any help you can offer.
G'day,
Vinish

Leggings are designed to be worn on the outside but if you decide to wear them inside and your frogg toggs melt then you will learn by experience.
I have them and they work good even in a mist you know when just the fron of your jeans get damp...
I also bought myself a suit last year. HD Overpass after going through about 6-8 different cheaper ones in 15 years... rode 8 hours in torrential rain this fall from Asheville NC to the NC coast ...dry as a bone....My hands and Mustang seat is the only part that got wet....

i "had" a pair of frog toggs until i was in arkansas and riding in the rain. started smelling a burning plastic smell and notice that there was a hole the size of a soft ball in the pants.
its a pain to get that stuff off the pipe, but possible. the next time i ride i will use some sort of strap to wrap around my lower legs. figure if i am gonna ride down the road looking like a ballon i might as well have one leg tight against me. cant make me look any more stupid.

I always do the pants on the inside. When you ride, the wind is pushing the rain up your leg (assuming forward controls) not down so the only way the rain is going to go down into the boot is if you are standing still for a long time.
Thats why i broke down and bought the HD two piece rain suit, its a little stiffer so it doesnt blow up like the michelin man. An i wear the pants outside my boots, they have a elastic strap that goes around the bottom of my boots.
