Default Hot pipes and leather bags, Problem?

Hey all I just purchased a set of Harley leather saddle bags and put them against my bike for a quick look. They line up perfectly and look good there however, the right side bag rests comfortably on the top pipe(shotguns). The pipes are black ceramic coated Rush. Anyone know if this will cause a problem with the bags or the pipes and what that might be?
The bags are not quick disconnect so will remain on the bike over 60% of the time I think. I am not terribly concerned with the bottom of the bag if it is just going to be a discoloration issue and they are used so I guess the dye is well aged. My main concern I think is the pipe discoloring or building up some kind of leather gunk????

Any help appreciated thanks!

I've run bags with really low clearance before with no problems other than the leather getting crispy after awhile but personally I wouldn't rest the bag on the pipe.

I have to believe that is going to cause a headache eventually.

I've always wondered about that with these bags. No problems with the fringe frying off? - for those that have one of these?

You should be able to adjust your bag hieght in the center of the saddle (top of fender). I adjusted mine to where it is about a half inch off pipe when I use to run bags. Mine was leather laced and I just unthreaded it moved over a couple holes and rethreaded it, dont know if yours is like that. Good luck!

That would have been nice but no, I do not have that option.

Leather is like skin. If you wanna see if your pipes will burn the leather, touch them with your hand after you get your bike warmed up.

You'll find out it won't work with the bags resting on the pipes.

A sharp knife will cut my fingers off with little effort whatsoever. That same knife will struggle
severely to cut a piece off of that leather. Leather is nothing like skin.

I keep the bags about 2 inches from the pipes. Yes, it will cause problems resting on the muffler. The leather will fry, but go ahead and do it as an experiment to find out what happens after a 2 hr. ride and let use know the results. You could build a heat shield for the bag to rest on mounted above the muffler and the bag should hide it from sight.

I agree with what has been said above, about it causing a problem eventually. It might seem okay for awhile, especially if it is resting on the heat shield. But in the long run or even in a few months, I would worry about the bottom of the bag becoming brittle and failing. If there's no way to adjust the height of the bags, either return them and buy a different saddlebag, or install a different style pipe that won't touch the bag.
