It's easy to get a bike off of the center stand. However, it sounds to me like you were trying to get the bike off of the center stand by standing along side of it. The best way to get the bike off of the center stand is:
  1. Sit on the bike.
  2. Keep front wheel straight.
  3. Bike in neutral (or clutch disengaged if in gear).
  4. Hover the front brake, but do not squeeze (see hint below).
  5. Rock the bike and push forward at the same time.
  6. The center stand will retract as the bike moves forward.
Helpful hints:
  1. Grap the front brake as soon as the center stand retracts and the rear wheel touches the ground. This keeps the bike from rolling too far forward, especially down hill.
  2. Keep the front wheel straight at all times. Otherwise, the bike may fall over to the left or right.

Can you change a tire from the center stand (assume applying a little pressure on opposite end)? Thanks, Kevin.

....just sit on the seat....get your weight towards the rear end. Get in the friction zone of the clutch....rev up a bit and feather the clutch....if you don't stall it...the bike will ease (not lurch) forward and it will "fall" forward off the stand. The press/lever bar should fold back. Have confidence...remember how much you and the bike weigh...and ask yourself why the rear tire makes ground contact. If you want to gain confidence...ask someone to look at how much more tire deflection you have when you sit on it.

BTW....I dont know anything about m/c's....but i did sleep at a Holiday Inn last night.
