Default My $25 HD Softail Custom Saddlebags

I posted a few days ago about my “Ebay Score!” saddlebags – a set of $650 Harley Softail Custom bags off a bike that had been down, that I got for $25.

I need to get mounting bolts and a couple of conchos from Tandy Leather today, but otherwise I have them ready to go.

All of the plastic HD quick release buckles have been replaced with black metal buckles and the rivets holding the bucles and straps have been replaced with black Chicago screws, so I can take them apart easily if I decide to make more changes – I still need 2 replacement chrome buckles from Harley, but I swapped the buckle from the undamaged bag to the one that had been down for the pics, until I get them both.

I worked on the leather for less than an hour with stuff from my shoeshine kit (leather dye, polish and edge dressing).

Here is the bag from the side that went down, before repair:

And after – I’d say that’s worth $25.

Yeah, the crashed bag looks almost as good as the uncrashed bag. My repair came out a little blacker than the original, but not that noticeable. I guess I could dye both bags, but I don't care that much.

Got them mounted, along with my toolboxes - also an Ebay score that I probably have under $50 invested in (both sides together).
