Default Coil relocated.... horn doesn't work! Help!!

Ok, so I finished up my coil relocation project... (pics coming). Started 'er right up with no problems. However I extended the horn wires about 18" to fit up under the nacelle. I got it hanging to make sure it works before I tuck it up in there. And good idea... cause it sounds like an old mans fart!! It technically works but I can't even hear it over the engine. It just sort of sputters and tweets. What did I do wrong?

Try grounding the bracket

Go to the wrecking yard and buy a small horn off a wrecked import... Will work great and your going to tuck it away out of sight anyway... Right

Just tried that... no go. I soldered the 18" of 18 gauge speaker wire on so good contact shouldn't be a problem. Maybe a simple too long of wire losing power?

My horn worked before this relocation, so getting a new horn wouldn't do much for me.

Test light is in order here...it's either power or ground.

not sure speaker wire was a good idea... you may be loosing a ton of voltage.put a voltage meter to it.

Well, I took ground out of the equation. I unhooked the ground wire and put it right to the engine with the same sound. I also took vibration out by mounting it back in the cowbell. Only thing left is voltage, really. Anyone know what voltage it's supposed to be? It runs off a 15A fuse, but the manual says nothing of the voltage. I'm ASSUMING everything on the bike runs on 12v but I've been wrong before.... 12v? anyone?

yup...12v supply..if you have it, hook up the horn and test it...if the voltage drops more than 10% your wire is an issue.

Ok, now I'm baffled. Using some alligator clips, I hooked the horn DIRECTLY to the battery with the same results. I just don't get it. She's barely a year old and my horn worked perfectly 2 weeks ago. Could the horn really have gone bad like that???
