I agree with firecwp, ride height is a big factor. Personally, I went with RSD vintage about a year ago and looking at gangsta apes 16" now. It was a compromise over quality/looks of the RSD's opposed to 4 more inches of rise and if I would have listened to this forum I would have had 16's. So, I will be switching them out soon and selling the RSD's. If you want them shoot me a PM.
1st hand experience - big improvement. Stock bars were 10's and went to 16's, and I can go 2+ hours now without that broken *** bone feeling (thanks Badlander seat) that I was getting after an hour of highway. The looks were also important for the style of bike.
Wife went from drags to 14" Burly Narrow Glides, and 100% improvement, which meant more riding after riding the bikes. Drag bars with solo seat and forward controls on a 1200L sportster is a great combo for sitting on the fender after giving some throttle.
Big plus was to shove the wiring in the bars. I would have run the signal wires in there if I had found the extensions on time. I will fix that later. Got the turn signal relocations, but I like the signals on the bars to leave the forks clear.
