Was wondering about thoughts of riders who went to a moderate/mini ape over stock bars, is it better than stock in comfort and etc? Just wondering.
Just wondering.

I never really liked apes (and still don't like the really tall ones) but that is just my taste. That being said, after trying a two sets of drag bars I still couldn't get the comfort I wanted. I was hit earlier this year and bent the second set of brand new bars so I decided to go with some Carlini 12" Flyin Apes. This was one of the single most important things I have done for comfort. I'm 5'6" so I didn't want to go too high. The 12" bars actually meaure out a little higher (about 13" or so) and put my hands about shoulder height. They have been extremely comfortable and I really like the look also.

I went from stock fatboy bars to 16 inch apes. They are level with my shoulders and very comfortable. The stock bars were not comfortable at all.

I tried a friends bike with mini apes and the difference was amazing. I went from stock bars to a 12" mini ape. This allowed me to keep my arms and wrists aligned and eliminated the tendinitis pain in my elbows. Incredible difference. I also have 14" on my Ironhead bobber.
Never cared for the tall style apes, but the grip angle on the stock Heritage bars is uncomfortable for me. I changed to the medium apes stock on a Softail Custom and they were perfect on my 06 Heritage. I'll be changing the bars on my current Heritage too. Best part is no wiring or brake line changes are required.

Hi Mark, I'm gonna try and slide a pic of my Yammi Roadstar in here with my 16" Kong bars, Man I love them over the stock bars I had. I'm putting Flanders 13" high, WIDE 11", with a 10.5" pull back on My FLSTC. I've got the bars on now in the garage, waiting on wire and cables, brakes and rotor to get it all back together, then I'll do the back rotor and calipers. Never ends does it?!?! Yer gonna love some apes, pll em back to suit you or push em forward and let the breeze cool yer pits. Either way they are ****. Let me try and get this pit in here.
and heres my heritage sitting and waiting for some more parts, sure glad I waited till winter ti fiddle with this! Gotta love it though, 60 yrs old and still can't stop jackin' with this chit, what a life eh?!?! ;o)
I went with 12.5 chubby wild 1's, i like the look and comfort but due to a shoulder injury I will be switching to a set of beach bars soon. If it wernt for a bad shoulder I would leave them on.
From stock bars to Heritage bars which puts the grips at the same height as mini 12" apes. Would go taller if funds allowed. Much better, no more neck pain. Also added a C&C seat that put me back and lower - also great for additional comfort.
I love my 18" BRCustom apes, but I see how 16's would be better on really long rides. I don't see how 12's would help out much. I had Heritage bars before and needed more height. I'd say 14-16" depending on rider height (i'm 6'). If you went with 12's anyway, I'd at least get your cables long enough so you could change risers to reach additional height if needed.
