This subject has probably been beaten to death. I will be putting a new system on my 2008 Softail Custom before spring. I am looking at the Vance and Hines double barrel. I realize that it is the "Q" series. I live in a development so I don't want to upset the neighbors at 6:00am when I leave for work. I am more asking your advise of past experiences of what sounds and works better.
V&H are generally pretty loud. Everybody told me mine (BRs) were too loud, so I took them off and put the stock mufflers back on, for now, until I can find something in between. I'm probably going to go with a good 2-1. Fatcat probably. Use common sense and common courtesy. If you are worried about upsetting the neighbors at 6:00, you should consider something with good, deep tone, but not too loud (a longer pipe with some type of baffle or a good slip-on); and forget about drag-type pipes.
Thanks for the info hoggymtnbreakdown. The noise factor is why I was looking at the V&H double barrel. It is listed as a quiet series pipe. I want something that has a deep throaty sound but not really loud.
Check with the Dr. He should be able to assist you in finding what you are looking for.
Someone posted a link a while back about a set of pipes that had a baffle that could be adjusted so you could go loud when you want, but also could quiet em down to stock with a simple adjustment. Big bonus was they were affordable.....
I think they were called Patriot or something like that.....
