Does anyone know if an 07 Fatboy tank will work on an 09 model? I am looking at getting some custom paint work done and found an 07 tank real cheap. I would like to save my original set and have the work done on another. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Someone else will likely chime in with 1st hand experience, but I believe the fuel pump/float are different in the 07 than the 08/09 years (I know this cause removal instructions say so). Does the 07 tank have the "guts" in it? I am not sure if the fuel pump/float are swappable. Something to check out 1st.
Also to anyone reading, is there a source for fuel pumps for these other than new at the dealer? I bought a new 09 dealer takeoff vivid black paintset and would like to get another fuel pump and such for quicker swapping. Even got the cap and fuel gauge. You are supposed to change all of those small screws everytime the pump is pulled out, and gasket, etc.
Thanks for the info and the link. I think I'll start looking for an inexpensive 08-up tank. Just one more quick question. If I got an 07 with all the guts still in it (pump, float, etc.), does anyone know if it would be a straight plug and play?
One thing that I could suggest looking into is if the 07's had a fuel reserve on the speedo cluster. There are different part #s for the 2 speedo's and I think that they do not display the digital reserve on the odometer (the estimated miles to fill up) via the switch until the 08 model year. It may work, but you may loose that feature.
