LoL... A stripped Sucker Punch with a 96 is about $23,000.00.... Imagine if HD put thier name on it... They would charge you a CVO in a half...... Hell look what they do to FORD. They put HD on a truck, paint it black and ask $60,000.00...

There should be a new model introduced. It would be the Custom. You pick what you want from there thousands of parts that fit and they build. Of course most people would still buy a stock bike and make there own because thats what owing a HD is all about....

Isn't that what HD/or your dealer already does... Because i know my dealer did it.... They kept pushing thier "HD" parts book... "Hey pick out as many parts as you want to and we'll install them... then just throw the bill on to your loan...no problem" ...lol.... I couldn't tell you how many times i said "I just want the bike with NO extra parts and NO extra warranty"..... I had dejavue about 20 times within 2 hrs. ....

No, what I'm saying is you could take a basic Deluxe ($16,799 msrp) for that price you would get these options:

Bars: apes, beach, or drag bars
Seat: stock, or solo seat
Floorboards: stock or half moons
Tires: choose between Blackwalls or whitewall and 16', 18', or 21" up front

So it wouldn't so much be a custom build, just a couple of options that the dealer could do in the setup.

How many people would love to walk into a dealership and ask for a 2012 Deluxe with a 21" front wheel, a solo seat and a set of apes, and the dealer says sure it'll be ready in a week the msrp is $16,799

I am sure a lot of people would love that but not going to happen. It isnt just a Harley thing, any manufactor of motorcycles, cars, trucks or whatever is going to charge you for those additional things. It would wind up being stock were included in the base MSRP. If you want to additional bars it would cost this much. Same would go for everother option. By the time you were down the price would be insane.

The resistance to custom orders is old school. The dealer should become a consultant. You go in, look at some 'basic' floor models, and order your bike 6 months ahead of when you will get it. Since we have them amazing new things called puters or something like that, you know, put stuff into this little box and out comes pictures and words... why, gee... the entire package request (engine, lowering kit, wheels, bars, seat, etc.) gets assembled on the line with each part needed delivered to the line jit (just in time) and then it wouldn't be 'custom' any more. Harley can do this... SPS and their like can't afford to. HD could kick butt over all other manufacturers using this approach. Maybe they think it would require too much brain power from their employees to make sure that they get the right part on the right bike?

I think the reason that they are dropping versions of HD's (Nightrain, RCCustom, Rocker, etc.) is because the demand is down and they have found or don't think (take your pick based upon your opinion of the american worker) that a 'line' can mix product. IOW, they have to have a run of the same bikes for an entire shift to minimize mistakes. Their workers aren't smart enough to change gears and avoid mistakes. (I don't think this, btw). So, fewer bikes means less time to run a line, so they have to drop product to keep the lines full for a full shift. Same reason the 'custom but not custom' idea won't work in their minds... plus the poor dealer wouldn't have any way to make money... er, how about just upgrade your services, Mr. Dealer?

P.S. Anybody know where I can get a lowering kit for this soap box?
