Stock Softail Shock Adjustment
If I turn the locknut, the shock moves with it, difficult to turn but doable. Locknut absolutely refuses to budge independently! Have the H-D spanner tool for the shock adjustment. Back in October, preparing for a trip, dealer's mechanic didn't know what I was talking about when I asked him to turn the shock barrels 2 turns for an upcoming trip. He changed the ride height instead.
I explained what he was supposed to do, he apologized and re-did the adjustment, or so I thought. That was a few months ago. When I needed to put the shocks back to the original setting because bike is now only lighly loaded, I found the shock shafts protruding about 4 turns or so in (towards the engine side) and can't budge the nut. I had to move the entire assembly to get those shafts so only about 1 turn protruding. Am I just confused? I thought shock barrels turned on those shafts, not withthem once locknut was loosened.
Ideas?
