Default New Seat?

What suggestions do you all have for seats for long rides? When I say long I mean 8-10 hours. The better half and I plan some longer rides this summer and complains about my standard seat now so that is basically a request for a better seat. Any suggestions? Sometimes I wish I would have gotten the Electra Glide but I love the Softail look better. Sounds like I need 2 bikes, a cruiser and bar hopper.lol

Check out Meancitycycles web site. There a sponser and i have used them for my last three bikes. About to do my Lo also. They use 5lb hospital grade foam and there work is excellent and the seat looks better than factory when done. They also offer gel.

Mean City does do excellent work if you want to keep your stock seat. I put a Mustang Sport Tour with rider backrest solo on mine and got the wide rear for when the wifey rides with me. We have done a couple 400 mile days with no issues. I could not be happier with the seat.

In my experience nothing is good for that long. But many of the custom seat makers do better than OEM. Harley even makes several good alternative seats.

I have a couple of custom seats. Perhaps the best is from C & S with gel. But I had a Mustang seat that was also excellent. Mustang does not do leather, so it had to go.

Also have a Harley seat from its custom program, but it's a solo. Very thin padding on that one.

Saddlemen Explorer is the most comfortable 2 up seat I had sat on so far. My wife says the same.

Mustang 17.5 wide touring seat.backrest with 14" pillion. Wider and more padding than stock. The most dramatic difference will be felt by your wife. I believe you can get just the pillion if you're happy with your stock seat.

One thing with the Mustang wide is that your legs won't hang as easily to the ground. If you can just barely flatfoot your bike now that may be an issue for you. It's not a problem for me, just feels different. So I generally use the setup only for long rides.

For long rides, Mustang all the way! I too have the 17.5 wide touring and it is mandatory for long rides two-up... the wife won't go otherwise! I love my C&C seats, and we put several hundred miles a day on the Sport Tour, but it can't match the comfort of the Mustang. I don't have the driver backrest, but we checked them out at Street Vibrations this year and if I was buying now I would seriously consider it - very cool and comfortable accessory!

OK, I think I am going to order the Mustang. I want to get the Solo with back rest and 2 up 14" rear. When looking at the Mustang site it shows 3 different Softail models. It says Softail, softail Standar Rear tire, and Softail Wide tire. I know I don't have the Wide but what is the difference in the softail and softail standard rear tire. I have a 2006 FLSTCI Heritage Softail. Do I order the standard rear tire?

Sorry and thanks.

Damn I am confused. You gentlemen with OLs that ride with you, have any of you tried the Mustang 79120/79130 combo and the Saddlemen Explorer Gel? I am torn on which one to get. I think both will ride about the same for me. I just want the OL happy because I really like her riding with me. I also cannot find anything that says how wide the back/up portion is. The 79130 is 14". I would hope the explorer is about the same. Thanks.

I have the Mustang, great seat for a reasonable price. Saddleman, day-long and billy mayer saddles are all very nice custom seats more tailored to the individual buyer. Worth the extra cash if you do a lot of truely long rides. But, the Mustang is cheaper and more readily available, and works great for me on regular IBA rides.
