Default Fuel pump

Hi Folks,

Did anyone ever had problems with the in tank fuel pump ?

I'm planing to make some tank mods that will make the full pump inaccessible.

thanks

My bike has the original fuel pump if that helps you decide.

Pin holes in the lines to the pump are a common problem...

Making it inaccessible really isn't a great plan.

My gas line from the fuel pump got a pinhole in it when I first got my bike (used) and the fuel line had to be replaced. I say replace the fuel line while you are in there.

You can also start leaking at the check valve and have to replace the check valve assembly which includes the hose spoken about above.

That doesn't seem like a good idea. The fuel lines could get pinholes, the filter needs to be changed as part of the service of the fuel system, the pump/electronics could always fail. What would you do then if something happened? The pump is reliable, but you just never know...

Do what you want, just be prepared to cut open your tank at some point in the future. Remember the fuel filter is also housed in the tank and is supposed to be replaced every 25K miles, or you can leave it and wait till it plugs up and leaves you sitting on the side of the road.

Thanks guys,

I knew it wasn’t a good idea, but think I found another way, just do it the “classic” (wanted to avoid that) and custom make a leather tank panel, just have to find something to fill the gap between the console and the tank…
