Default Sears Jack

Got one for Xmas, and getting ready to try it out. I looked under the Heritage, and want to make sure I'm not jacking somewhere I shouldn't be. Where do you guys position yours? I know I need to miss the shock canisters, and probably the rear hinge, but wanted to see if anyone could tell me what they do on their Heritages?

Thanks. Never used one before obviously.

Cool Jack

My J & S jack lifts my '09 Heritage ok with the instructions say enter from the air filter side with the right frame of the jack about 1&1/2 " back from the down tubes of the frame, leaving the jiffy stand down. This is for my jack on my bike. Should work, but I don't know about Sears & not instructions.

I have had a Sears jack for a few years. I have a '03 FXST, but the fit should be the same since I don't think they've changed that part of the frame or where the shocks sit, nor do I believe there's a difference between the standard and heritage as far as that's concerned. I slide the jack in from the air cleaner side and make sure I put the left arm of the jack just behind the shock cylinders.

Put a 1/2 thick piece of rubber under the rails at the shock end of the jack or buy the hd frame protectors and you won't have to worry about where to put the jack. J&S told me it was safe to jack on the shocks but I still feel better using the rubber spacers under the rails.

I have that same jack - you need to be careful as the rack will lean if you don't position it at the center mass, which is difficult if you are working on your shocks. What I do as a safety precaution is take a basic floor jack and position that on the farthest rear frame cross member and lift it enough to keep the sears jack level.

Good luck and happy jacking.

Plus 1 on using the frame protectors. You'll need to trim them with a blade to fit.

I place the jack on either side.... whetever side im not worken on. As for jack placement i align the jack about 1" away from the kick stand... It's a good balancing point.
