Default 2003 softail standards

i'm doing my research on my next motorcycle purchase. i've seen a few used ones in my area for sale with under 5k miles on them(both 2003's). nothing major done to them, i think both were fuel injected. what can you guys tell me about them? i know with my next bike, i want to go with fuel injection. my first bike was, my last 2 were carbed (all non-harley) and i want to go back to fuel injection. anything "known" to be an issue with them, or anything i should specifically look for?

the only thing is its a tc88 and you will have to count on putting the tensioners or conversion in it if you do the work yourself from 2 to 5 hundred bucks. but if you get a good deal you will be good to go.

Mine is a carb'd 03' Standard and i absolutely love it! I have 23,xxx miles on it now and have had no problems whatsoever. After a few years and a bunch of paychecks i think that i have a finished product now haha. Good luck with your bike

thanks for all the info, i did notice that some are carbed that year and some are FI. was that something Harley was toying with? my current 2 bikes are carbed and they are becoming a hassle so i'd like to steer away from the carbed models.

They weren't toying with anything. They offered in both set ups until 06

As stated above, a nice bike. I would get a carb over an efi this time if i were to get another, but either are good. Anything 02 or newer has the Delphi fuel injection where as prior to 02 the MM fuel injection has been known to be problematic. I prefer the simplicity of a carb.

carbs are a simple creature, i've just been having no luck at all with the ones i have now. (i know, probably comparing apples and oranges)

Get the carb'd model, simple and effective, sound better too.

The standard is a blank canvas, just waiting to modified.
