Hey folks, my 1st post in softail section, I usually hang out in the touring section cause of my roadglide but please don't hold that against me.
My wife rides a 2004 1200 sporter custom w fwd controls. She is looking to move onto a bike with floorboards. At the DC m/c show last month, she really liked the deluxe and the fatboy low. Due to budget reasons, a new bike is out of the question I need to look at an older used one... my question is... what is involved in converting an older fatboy into a LOW model? I know I can just swap out the fork springs to lower the front, my question is on the rear, if I need to go to a whole different shock/spring setup or some other way to lower the rear?
many thanks in advance. I did use the search function first but got no hits on the subject.
You can do lowering bolts in the shocks, lowering shocks, or an air ride. Plenty of options to choose from. The air ride will give the best ride. We all use the Shotgun Shock.
You can email me, I have a set of shocks with lowering bolts installed on them setting in my garage, collecting dust, I would be willing the part with.
Replacing the shocks is pretty easy.
Installing lowering bolts is pretty easy if you have some ***** and a floorjack. Otherwise, you have to take them somewhere that has a press.

thanks for the offer, it's a little premature at this point, I have just started searching around for a used bike at a decent price, nothing definate yet. I'll email you if/when I find a good bike at the right price and actually have something to work on. For now I was just trying to figure out what my options were for lowering the rear. On her sportster I swapped on the fork springs and rear shocks to get it down another inch, I wasn't familiar with what my options were on the softail shocks.
