Default Speed Sensor

I have a 2000 night train... The speed sensor is not reading... I did clean the metal shavings off once and tried after that. No luck. Should I just look at replacing it. And what does that intale.... Thanks

I had to have one replaced shortly after I bought my 2003 Fatboy (June 06) because the speedometer quit working. I took it to a local wrench. I watched him replace it. He disconnected from the tranny and followed it up to a connector that is under the seat next to the rear fender. He did not have to remove the fender or tank. Replacement part cost about $50 at the dealer.
He did say that sometime you can just clean the debris from the tip that is inside the tranny and that will solve the problem.
Sorry I can't be more technical but hope this helps.
