For those of you Softail Standard guys that have switched over the rear fender from Bob Tail to the other down turn fenders:
Did you use a fatboy fender of the same year model? If so, does this just bolt right on? Do you have to do any other mods to tail light.. etc.?
I have an 05 Softail Standard.
Please post pics if you have done this. RamHunter, like your bike a lot. Please share if possible.
Yes if you get the same year it will just bolt right up... But you can find other years that will bolt up to like deluxe fenders since they don't have the 200 like the new fatboys. I used a 06 deluxe for my 05 NT.
If you just buy the fender will need to find a tailight and on the inside of the fender you have support bracket "FXST" if you use yours you will need to cut it to fit in the long fender... but it's real easy.
One of the Softail fenders would be a direct fit but you could also get a shorter aftermarket fender that is the correct width. It would require drilling the correct holes for the strut mounts but would look a bit more hot rod with the skinny front end your bike has.
Since you have an '05 you will have alot more options and they should bolt right up. I have an '06 with the 200mm tire so I used an '07 Fatboy fender and bolted it right on.
