Although I liked the look of my stock seat, I was experiencing lower back pain and shoulder pain after less than an hour in the saddle. I bought a Mustang touring seat front and rear with the accompanying backrest for the front. It looks very similar to stock, but I can ride all day now - a huge difference.
What do you guys think of the leather Badlander seat? I'm thinking about swapping out the stock seat on my 07 Deuce for it with a small passenger backrest as well.
Thanks.
I think it's the best looking seat out there. My '07 Nightrain came with the Vinyl Badlander and I think it's perfect although like you.... I'd perfer leather over vinyl.
However: I've noted that MANY riders have sincere complaints about the Badlander seat (at least online) -
My theory is get your riding position sorted out first - Bar width, height, setback etc because until you get that perfected your weight distribution on your current seat won't give you a fair evaluation of your current seat.
Replaced my rock-hard stock FXST Standard seat with a equally rock-hard leather badlander...I like the look and I'll be keeping it on for shorter local rides but it's not the most butt-friendly seat that's for sure! I'm looking for something now to temporarily replace it with for the long hauls I plan to do next spring/summer...maybe a corbin or a sundowner as long as it works with my detachable backrest. I considered the '07 FXSTC seat (which would fit my standard) and does look comfy but I don't really care for the integral pillion/backrest/sissy bar.
Never had any problems with my stock seat but I did swap it out for the OEM Springer Classic seat cause I love the look of the seat rail and got the short rider backrest to go with it. Love it.
I too love the look of the origional seat that comes with the Deluxe. I had nasty tailbone pain and had a hard time standing up when I would stop after 2-3 hours in the saddle. Changed out to the sundowner and with the high backrest it cured the problem for me. It not as attractive but is sure is more comfortable. It is listed as a two-up touring seat in the harley catalogue.
i put a le pera solo on mine! looks better than stock and to me is alot more comfortable! althought i did just win a badlander seat on ebay and can not wait till it gets here! i guess im lucky my wife rides her own bike so i dont have to worry about a passenger being happy!!
Stock 04 Fatboy seat.. For a 5 hour ride it was brutal. Hard and flat. At the time I wanted a lower profile custom-like seat, so I picked up a Lepera Bullet Solo.. Actually was more comfy than the stock, but still is a barhopper style seat, not that great for long long miles. Just installed a Mustang Wide Vintage Solo seat. About the same height as stock, but far better build quality, construction and extremely more comfortable.. I would have no issues with rolling out on a full day riding, 300-400+ miles on this seat. Almost like adding an extra set of shocks. Couldn't be happier, though I could have gone either way between the standard or wide versions. Good tour seat but still looks great.. Very old school looking.
I replaced my stock seat with two Corbin seats. The one pictured below is the Gunfighter for solo rides and then I have the Gunfighter and lady with back rest for when the wife wants to ride. For a grand total of about $900 in seats. Oh well the wife does not bitch anymore...lol....
