I was all set to do this to my bike today, but I discovered my switch to be intact still although it was not working. I already had the new switch I bought 3 years ago so I finally put it in. So know your switch can go bad without the end breaking off as well.
I am off today and it is going to be close to 70! Did the oil change yesterday and a short ride due to the break light being on but nice to finally throw a leg over the bike for the first time this year. I am going to dig into it and see what is going on. I did replace the covers and grips but that was a year ago and used the cardboard while doing it but now out of nowhere it is staying on.
The dealer told me that since it was done out side of the dealership no warranty. I juess I can get that, but I also asked about getting my front end bearings tightened up and was told since I did not do the 1000 service with them no warranted either and I would have to pay ( there is 4050 miles on the bike now). I am going to contact another dealer today and see what they say.
Thanks for the answer on the screw fix and I hope it works. I really hate taking the control's apart on these things.
If the light is staying on you might not need a screw. My buddies Dyna was doing this and we used two pieces of double stick tape on the end of the switch and that fixed it. this did not happen until he changed levers. You might want to try this before putting a screw in it.
