I give up. I have an 06 FXSTi with a Power Commander,K&N air cleaner, and Vance and Hines Straight Shots. After adding a set of "Quiet Baffles" to my pipes they were just to loud. 105 decibles at 1/2 throttle 25'. I ride in the City of Boston daily and Newport RI on weekends. Both have ordinances requiring EPA labels and enforcement has increased. My question is ,If I reinstall my stock pipes will the bike run better with the Power Commander (remapped) or is it better to just remove the Power Commander altogether?
I would think that you would still run better with the PC.
You can control fuel mix ratio and you would have abilty to tweak with higher rpm and timings.
That's one of the reasons I didn't go hog wild spending on a new complete exaust.
I kept the stock headers including the crossover and went with conservative 1.75 baffelled Rush slip-ons, quiet enough not to attrack attention yet wild enough to hear your engine.
the Xied's help to counter detonation with a richer mix.
When I see the man I just lay off the throttle a bit and roll by.
You see them complete exaust selling used on Ebay from California, they are enforcing it there also.
One good reason not to get rid of the stock exaust. I have mine wrapped away.
I live/ ride in Newport. They won't bother you if your just riding. If you start doing whole shots and blasting then they will.
I have short shots, and stage one and have never been stopped.
If you do get stopped in Newport it's an $80 ticket for not having stock pipes, doesn't matter how loud. I think that is dumb too, seeing I could have stock pipes with no baffles and I woudn't get a ticket or have other pipes that are just as quiet as stock but would get a ticket.
You won't have a problem
Also most Police don't have the right equipment or training to do a db level

Move to FL ... stay away from big towns ... I ran a race-ready Daytona replica with a punched out V-8 with nothing but open headers up and down the road ... you could hear it a mile away(according to my wife) ... and no bothers ... cops even gave me thumbs up ...
All kidding aside .... if the stock pipes have the EPA stampings put them back on .. the stock ECM is probably less capable of handling the larger air-intake than it can the more open exhaust - more air in leans out the mixture and the stock ECM can't handle it well. If you can get away with it and pass the emissions tests .. keep the Power Commander. When I had to live up north I ran a "test" program on my ECM so I could pass emissions testing .. then a block past the test station I would limp over and reload the "run" program so the thing could actually go.

Where in Cali are you talkin about? Im in San Diego and have NEVER had any issues on any of my bikes.
I know Newport beach will enforce the db in the summer when all the weekend warriors get out and ride like an idiot- but as everyone else has said if you dont drive like an idiot you shouldnt see any trouble
I ride around the same areas and haven't had any problems even though right in front of New Port Grand Jai Alai theres a big sign saying no loud pipes but I'm surprized you've had problems in the Boston area being all the action going on they would mess with a loud bike being the city is loud as it is with all the sirens, and road work, trucks and buses...Lol..that kinda surprizes me...
