My newused 04 heritage did not come with a windshield. It has the mounts on the bike for the removable, but no shield.
Do you run a shield? One concern I have is that I am short 5'6" on a good day, and dont want a shield that is either too big or too small. Never had one on my my metrics in the past, but just wonder about those chilly mornings on the way to work.
Thanks for the replies to the crash bars and I hope to get some good feed back here as well.
I didn't use a sheild for years and years then bought an Ultra back in 04'. It kind of spoiled me and I now have one on my Deluxe. Great to have on a cold morning and or in the rain. There are alot of sheild choices out there and you can even cut one down. Check around I'm sure you'll find one that fits.

If it's your only bike than yes you should have the detachable. You answered your own question, put it on when rides are gonna be long, cold or whatever else that will make it miserable with out one.
Take it off for around town, events, etc... at least you have the option.
As far as hieght, I bought mine and took it to a plexyglass shop and they cut it to the hieght and shape I wanted, cost me $40.
If you never had one on your metric....you know the answer...it's cold on cold mornings!!...IMO, your height has nothing to do with the notion of getting a windshield or not..just custom make it to your preferred dimensions. (I know I'm not helping your here because I don't know what the heck you're asking)
OK, let me get a bit more specific. Assume I can find a windshield that will fit, being short, what would be a good height for a shield. Should I be looking thru it, over it, too low and I assume the wind will buffet in my face....so confused!!
I like having mine on there. Even in the summer I've come to like it. I take it off when I'm running around town and short trips sometimes.
The headlight opening on mine sits an inch or two above the light. Measure up from the top of the headlight to a point just below your field of vision. That'll give you a closer idea as to what size to get. I'm 5'-9" and have a 17". With the stock bars, I looked about 2" over the top of it. Now that I have the apes, I hunch forward a little and look 2" below the top. I can straighten up and see over the top if it's foggy etc... My next one will be a little shorter or I'll cut it down a little.
I have been running the Harley king size nostalgic windshield for years now . i am 5 7 when i bought it i thought i would use it once in a while well its just the other way around i take it off once in a while. when you get use to one you cant live with out it. . it depends on the bike the deluxe lends itself to a windshield nicely so would the heritage. I do not think they would look good on some bikes. The stealer offered to cut mine down i decided to try it full size i never cut it and i like the shield
I have the disconnect on the train, I've used it probably 4 times... it REALLY helps with the cold mornings.. doesn't look all that cool but its pretty useful
