I removed my exhaust on my 09 fatboy, installing vance & hines bss, dont have them here yet,my question is,it looks like i have to remove the factory muffler bracket, therefore the foot peg has to come off, what size is the star bolt and it looks like that bracket is molded so the footpeg sticks out,is there a spacer you have to install?
When i put them on my bike, the footpeg DID have to come off, and the bolts would just spin and spin and spin..there's actually a C-clip on there somewhere which is holding the whole thing together..once that clip is off, the passenger footpeg comes right off quick and easy, japaneesy.
As for what size bolts they are, i just don't remember.. but aside from that clip everything was pretty straight forward to come off, just wanted to let you know about that clip before you get stuck like i did..
My bike needed a long T-45 to get to that bolt. I flagged down a snap on truck and got one from him when I needed it. I use socket with a long t 45 on it. I guess that makes sense. The regular length was not long enough.

Yeah thats it, and I don't know if the V&H comes with the bolt you'll need to reatach the peg " with out the bracket it will be to long " my samsons didn't so I went to the MOCO and got a bolt the same as the opposite side.
Might be different on an 09 though, let us know,
Whenever I have to do this job, I just use the long end of the L-shaped T-45 wrench that came with my bike, and then use any closed-end wrench linked to the short end to increase leverage on it. Works like a charm. I use this trick when I have to use the long end of an allen wrench, as well, like when I have to get up in between the shocks to drain the tranny oil.
