Any one know how much oil is actually left in the motor during a oil change? How much oil short of the filter, and how much after the filter still in the motor? Would have posted in the oil section but was unable new post in that section????
You'll have a very small amount - capacity of the actual lines, plus what should be no more than a couple spoonfuls in the crankcase. Probaly less than 1/4 quart.
If you're worried about that bit of oil, do what we called the "4 quart" change - disonnect the return line to the oil tank after doing the regular oil change, put the end of the hose in an empty can, start the engine and run it 'til clean oil is coming out the line, shut the motor off, and reconnect the line, top off as necessary.
You can have as much as 28-32 ounces left in the motor and lines, but I think some of this may be mixed with the clean oil as it passes through the motor.
