That is great to hear! You'll love it. And maybe I am biased but I think you will love the denim paint and not mind having to get the bolt on seat. Way back when before I got my Bones I used to read all these horror stories about how hard it was to maintain that style of paint. I found it interesting as my logic told me that the opposite would be true. Well I am happy to say that my instinct was right (one of the few times it is :-P) and it has been a breeze to maintain my bike's finish. Just gotta remember not to buff it or apply wax or anything like that. Soap and water is all you need. More often then not, I can give my denim tins a good cleaning with nothing more than a damp soft detailing cloth. Nothing better when the weekend rolls around I don't want to spend half the day detailing my scoot before I can hit the road!

As one other member mentioned, get a service manual and a neck bearing adjustment tool and learn how to do your own neck bearing adjustment which needs to be checked every 2500 miles. The tool I got is a socket type as apposed to the wrench type illustrated in the service and owner's manual. It is much easier to use IMO. You use it with a 1/2 inch driver. I've attached a picture of it below. It's called a Kastar 444 Neck Bearing Adjustment Tool for Springer Forks. Just do a search for it. There are several online vendors who carry it.

Welcome to the club!

I have to say I am very pleased with the warm welcoming I have received by not only joining the forum but the Harley Family as well!

Skeez, thanks for the tip. I knew about the adjustments, but didn't know what I needed. I'll have to do a search because I am unable to view attached pictures. Only embedded ones. I'm thinking maybe my membership is not verified...? I'll be sure to get pics. It's only stock but even I like pics lol.

As far as the maintenance on the paint, good to know. I've heard nothing but trouble from this type of paint and heard with wear it get shinny. I'll be sure not to wax it. That's gonna weird as I'm a waxing machine! I've been thinking more about it and I think the tall sissy bar and bolt on seat would be fantastic for not only keeping the wife comfy, but giving my a place to put my gear for work and long trips. Anyone have a pic of a bones with that sissy bar. I imagine it would look awesome with the mini apes, but I can't find a worthwhile pic.

Glad you feel welcome although let me warn you that it is not always kind words and friendly advice here on the forums. There are plenty of folks on here who love to do nothing more than give other folks flak about this and that. Whether it's about something you are doing or not doing that does or doesn't make you a real biker or giving you crap because you bring up a subject that has been discussed repeatedly and prompts the "Not this $h!t again!" comment. You can tell who those folks are because they have posted hundreds if not thousands of times which tells me they spend more time in front of the computer than in the saddle. Maybe that is why the see the same topics repeatedly. I have been on here since Oct. 2009 and yet to reach 300 posts... Anyway. I am starting to turn into a trash talker myself so I will drop that subject now!

Just do a google search for the part name I mentioned and you will see an image of the tool. It looks like an impact socket but with three small prongs on one end.

I am sure I have some pics of my bike somewhere with the Crossbones specific sissy bar and back rest but I would have to dig them up. I use a different set up now than I did before because my wife and daughter wanted a little more back support on long trips. So what I did is swap out my fender with that of a Fatboy Lo and for two up duties I run a Softail Deluxe rider seat and touring pillion (which is wider than the crossbones pillion). I am still running the sissy bar for now but that is only until I get my Deluxe style tour pack that I just bought of another forum member. I also switched from pegs to floorboards for my passengers. Heck! Let me know when you plan on doing some of these add ons to your bike. I may be able to make you a good deal on some of my Crossbones items... Just a thought if you don't mind going used.

The paint can start to lose its flatness if you buff it too much. Lots of people say that their tanks start to go shiny where there legs rub against it. I can see that being true. I guess I don't hug my tank with my legs to much for that to be an issue for me. Where I did see this on my bike was when I put on the passenger pillion. Because I planned on taking it on and off I did not install one of those stick on paint protectors on my fender. As such, my wife's weight on the pillion caused it to rub a shiny mark in the shape of the bottom of the pillion into my paints finish. Easily avoided if you use the paint protector thing. A lesson I learned the hard way although it mattered not in the end since I switched out the fender for a nice new Denim Black Fatboy Lo fender.

Anyway...

Enjoy the scoot. I doubt you will have any regrets about it!

Just got an '11 xbones. I love the bike. I was torn between that and the street glide, but the old school looks were too hard to pass up. I can't wait to mod it out and get some 18" apes, 21" front tire, and some v&h pipes. One word of caution though, maintenance is a little more than other softails and it's more frequent with the springer. Besides that it's a great bike, handles like a dream. Good luck and safe riding!

you need to post some more in order to see pics. Go play some games in the off topic forum. That will get your posts up quick.

Be sure to put up pics of your scooter when you get it.
