Thanks to all the great advice...that I have been leaching off of the OP...I ordered and received the Rockhard 3/4 helmet matte black...greatest helmet I own...and I have been through 5 of them.
I have a big grape and all helmets look like it should be yellow on me but Rockhard is the way to go! Now I just need to find a suitable half helmet so that I dont feel like Kazoo riding down the road...currently have the DOT Skidlid and cut the "comfort pad" out.
without poking fun, but if you're wearing a non-dot, and crash, its pretty much like wearing a plastic flower pot on your head.. your skull is still going to crack open.. that's the point of this thread, to post opinions on low-profile, good looking, DOT approved helmets.. so that way we can look decent and still keep our craniums in tact..
Not 100% true. Sure a novelty helmet doesn't provide "as much" protection as a DOT helmet, doesn't mean it's automatically gonna fail as soon as it comes into contact with the pavement. I went down last spring wearing my Novelty helmet. Had some nice size gouges in it, but stayed intact and my brain is still in my skull(I think). Sanded it down and repainted it. Still wear it to this day. If I ever find a DOT approved helmet that doesn't look like **** and catch air like a kite, I'll switch. Till then, I'll keep wearing mine.
Oh yeah, my DOT approved helmet that I used to carry in case I got pulled over was in my saddle bag. When I pulled it out after the accident, there was a 1 1/2 in crack in the front of it. Didn't hold up to well there.
Here is the Helmet Inc helmet I got from Dennis Kirk. The photos suck, but, for $36 or so, and another 8-9 for a quick disconnect, not bad. Order a size larger than normal. Feels good, and for a DOT, I can't complain.
Have a HD half helmet, but haven't been wearing it this year because the comfort sucks and the wind issues. Read this thread and ordered a Rockhard today, matte black. Waiting to hear when it will be shipped, even though it said tomorrow when I confirmed the order, but we'll see.

You should be good. I tried to order a medium in black and it said they will email me when it is in stock. So I ordered the gold flake- I'm kinda excited because this color is outside my norm- plus my bike is tan/smokey gold.
