patharley, I run a 21x2.15 on my Heritage...probably one of the last guys on this forum to do so. I like the skinny pizza cutter look...but most prefer a beefier looking from wheel.
To answer your question...yes you can run a 90/21 WWW on a 3" wide rim...you can go all the way to 3.5" wide rim if you want.
Some say you shouldn't go wider then 2.15, but I've got friends that have put many miles on 90/21 www's on 3.5" wide rims with absolutely no issues...other than an occasional bent wheel...but that's the price you pay when you stretch a tire to the limits.
