Default Crossbones - Painting the frame cover - ??

Has anybody painted their frame cover beneath the solo seat gloss black? I'm thinking it may look good since the frame is gloss black, but am not into paying $150.00 for the HD gloss cover. Is the $150.00 HD gloss cover metal or plastic????? Has anybody spray painted theirs and does it look good? Is it durable? Am I better off just getting the factory part? It's a very visble part of the bike and any blemish would really stand out.

Mine is by Heartland and is fiberglass, but I "cleaned it up", primed it and shot it with appliance epoxy gloss black. Holds up well.....

Mines painted been almost three years and still looks good. Should have been that way from factory. I took mine to macco. They paint plastic bumpers so this was a piece of ****..

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I'm going to try and hit it with gloss black spray and see what it looks like. If it doesn't turn out right, nothing lost. I'll take it to a shop at that point for a better paint job.
