Doesn't your bike tell you how many more miles you can get out of your tank. Mine does, and when I get under 10 miles left my clock automatically changes from time to miles left.
No clue I have not run it until that feature comes on. Not sure I want to trust it yet. I trust the advice you guys are giving me more because you have more experience with a Harley than I.

Sweet found it says R54. Missed that part in my owners manual and figured the dealer might have said something to me about it but guess not.

That was the first thing that came to my mind as well.
R 54....so you have approx. 54 miles worth of fuel left in the tank. Thats what I go by. Easy to use. Easy to follow. No reason to run dry.
