Need Information
I have a 2004 Fatboy fuel injected. Tonight I was doing an oil change an noticed an allenhead setscrew located on the bottom of the engine roughly located between the heads. I took it out and a small amount of oil drained out of it. Was this crankcase oil, engine oil, and why is this setscrew type plug located there? Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.
I believe it's used in the machining of the oil return scavenging for the oil pump. Don't remove it unless you suspect you have sumping problem. If you do remove it There shouldn't be any more than a couple of ounces of oil in there if everything is working right.
Imo...you are one lucky person if you took that plug out without damage. Many folks have screwed them up because they are usually so tight (loctite). All indications are...do not remove !!! However, now you have to put it back so be very carefull. Get it straight and tight but do not over tighten. Loctite it back in. Good luck !!!
