Fender strut bolt help (not a what size thread)
So I'm going to tighted up the right rear turn signal. I have my shiny new torx, and allen bits from sears. Start at the back bolt. I get the nut removed from the bolt so move on. Get the nuts, washers, and bolts from the other 2 in the rear fender. So I switch to my torx bits, and remove the 2 from by the oil tank. So easy peasy I just need to remove the rear bolt so I can tighten things up, and then reinstall, and put on the new solo. Here is the problem. The back bolt spins free enough, but does not come out of the fender. I try prying with the strut, put a small screw driver between the strut and fender and pry out. I even tried to beat the bolt out with a screw driver, and rubber mallet. can't get a good angle inside the fender, and don't have the bike on a jack it's just on the kick stand. So if anyone has had this problem please let me know. I am a little disgruntled at this point as I now have added some character to my rear fender I'm sure. Would like some advice on this if anyone has it???
Should just pop out... sounds like there might be a burr or even a clip holding the bolt in the hole. Can you put force on it and turn it counter -clockwise at the same time and see if it will take a bite to back out? Shouldn't be that big of a deal... just had my fender off to rewire my lights and was not a big job.
I had a similar problem when mounting my bags. I removed the ECM and fender extension bracket, and was able to get at the bolts. I believe the sled was on a jack, so you may not have the same clearance as I but it is worth a look. Remember once you remove the bolts run a tap through the fender rear mount bracket (the bracket with the two threaded bungs) to make re-assembly easy. Hope everything works out for you.

When I look underneath all I see is the plastic piece that holds the tail light, and license plate bracket on. I tried putting force on the back of the bolt, and loosening it, but couldn't get that much force on it with the tools I had with me. I'll take another look today after the MSF course is over. Thanks for the advice.

I just relized your ride is th FXST with a shorted fender than mine. You may not have to remove the ECM and fender extension plate (directly behind the battery. I am including an exploited view of your fender, it may help.

Chiefe thanks for the break down. I got the 2 bolts and nuts forward on the fender (closer to the seat) out no problem. I was able to get the nut off the bolt (right by the turn signal), but not the bolt to come out. I'm gonna go take another look at it and see if I can figure out what is holding it up.
Apparently their is an insert that is supposed to bite into the plastic piece that attaches the tail light, and license plate holder. So now I gotta see if I can fit some channel locks between the fender and that piece of plastic.
