Glad to find the forum, get good advise, vent out problems and meet fellow riders. 2005 FLSTSCI is one of my bikes and me and HD are about to square off again on my oil tank issue. The oil tank is powder coated black and has been peeling off slowly. Under the black is a nice clean "CHROME" tank. Have talked to the dealer, and even called HD about the issue, and the young lady at the other end said, "oh yeah, they powder coated over the chrome tanks but scuffed them first". To me, wrong answer, the chrome is in perfect condition and was not scuffed over. If I had wanted a chrome tank, I would have ordered one. Has anyone else run across this problem?
My next move is to send the CEO of HD a letter of concern and pictures of my half and half tank. I do not think they will do anything about it now, but I can vent.....I love the bike, have riden it over the country, get lots of looks and compliments (have the blue version), the tank is just a sore eye.
Thanks again for the forum and venting, other bikes are 1977 XLCH Sportster and a 1939 Servicar
What is the dealer doing for you? I worked at as a service manager and if the motorcycle was out of warranty, I had a pool of money (called Goodwill) that the MOCO gave me to use for such a purpose. The money came from my deligerence of keeping my warranty claims with the guidelines set out by the MOCO. So when a customer had an issue for his/her's motorcycle that was out of warranty and was a condition that was not the faults of the customer, I would do a would use that pool of money and the customer was happy. Go back to your dealer and find out if they could "goodwill" the issue. I bet they can...
Good point, I did go back to them and they gave me the stupid look, like, so what do you want from us. I have talked to other dealers and they have meantioned the pool of money you refer to. So I may just make an appointment with the owner of the dealership and talk to him one on one.
I know each dealer treats their customers differently and I am hope this one would show some honor. I went to them because the local dealership here did not impress me at all.
