Post a pic of it. I'm an aircraft Sheetmetal Mechanic. I pull stripped screws on a daily basis.

Hey Aaron got home real late last night and was exhausted. I am going to make sure I post a picture of it tonight so maybe you can give me some pointers... the screw broke in half, and the other half that was in there I tried drilling a hole in it but since the surface was not flat the drill bit kept on dancin around... I was able to make a hole of the sides of the screw, but I guess it did not provide enough "grip" for the screw extractor to get it out... I will make sure I post the picture today. Thank you for your help! speak to you soon!

It is a long shot but I have seen it work.Trying hitting it with some freon right before you start the extraction.

I'll second the freeze it to help. However a bit more commodity, use a can of air like you use for cleaning out a computer and turn it upside down and spray it, this shoots the CO2 directly and works much the same as freon.

I'm just guessing here, but you did remove the cover first and there isn't enough to grab right? I don't want to be insulting but without pictures it is only a guess. One of my neighbors did something like this with a valve cover bolt once and there was plenty sticking out of the head if you took the cover off but he drilled it out with the covers on and destroyed the cover.

Nothing fun about this at all. If I were a bit closer I would run down to give you a hand.

You might need to take a dremal tool and grind it down until the hole that you made is gone. Then try using a center punch to start a hole in the middle and then start the extraction process after that. Good luck.

Try using a center punch to get a point in the middle. Then put your drill in there and turn the chuck by hand to get it started. Then you might be able to drill the hole in the center. If you don't have a center punch just grind a point on a drill bit. Best of luck.

If that screw is bottomed out and the bottoming caused the breakage, you'll be more than lucky to ever get it out with an extractor. It's going to be very tight. Be very careful - if you break the extractor in there then you're really f'd.

I think your best choice is to simply drill out the broken bolt and install a heli-coil if you screw up the threads in the process.

the problem with over torqueing it in alum. is that it pulls the threads before the bolt breaks so an extractor option is hopeful at best. try it just don't force it and break it in there too. If it were me I'd just drill it out and helicoil it
