Default Front Fork Cans

Does anyone know if the cans (upper fork covers) slide off the bottom or come off the top of the forks? I have the service manual but it's a little difficult to tell. I have the front and side plates as well as the cans to put on and am trying to decide whether to do it now (if they come off the top) or just wait until I do my 20K service when I replace the fork oil and the lowers with chrome ones any way (if they come off the bottom.

I believe that they're attached to the lower tree and the fork tubes have to be removed to service.

They come off from the bottom and you will be money ahead to wait and do it with your lowers.I did it myself after reading several post on this site.Good luck and ride safe.
