+1 on BR's... Just ordered the 1.5 sweeping beaters bent forward and cant wait for them to come in. Cost me an arm, leg and ******** but I only plan on switching the bars out once so mine as well buy what ya like. Never rode a bike with apes and didnt want to go too crazy with the height and not like em so I went with 1.5 risers with 14inch apes and I'm 5'9.
Since you asked toprat, I would go with Rolland Sands Vintage King Ape, hands down, by far my favourite.... and with your bike, black finish would be the choice. They are badazz bars. I'm kicking my *** for not doing this. Myself 16", but depends on your height, bar angle, etc.
here is my 1993 FXDL Dyna LowRider. Its got 4'inch Risers with 12 inch old school apes.. 16 inchs total height... Im 5'9 tall in height and its VERY comfortable but you gota learn to ride with apes... you dont turn the bars anymore in turns.... you LEAN into the turns!
I lean into my turns with my regular bars now. hehe hard habit to break coming from the Sportbike world.
You literally have a million choices, take your time and look around.... A lot. The only thing I would recommend to you is 1.5" risers. If you like the looks of the RSD bars, check out Todds Cycle, his are the same. And he is the guy that built all of Rolands bikes when he started. I've got Todds on mine and couldn't be happier.
Apes are just as if not more comfortable. The only thing is in the PNW in the cold you don't get the circulation in the fingers and they get colder more quickly.
