Default Ape Install Questions

I have been doing alot of research lately and have decided to put Wild One 12.5" Chubby Apes on my 03 Fat Boy. My question is what would be the best method to extend the wires? I am going to run them internally and am alright with a soldering gun but have seen the Novello Wire Extension Kits. Does anyone have experience using these kits? If so are they worth the money and what size extension would you recommend?

Thanks,
Josh

if you are handy enough with a soldering gun, I would say just get some wire and extend them yourself. The Novello kit seemed nice, but the guy who did my bar swap said he didn't like the connector and he ended up having to go in and fix one of the wires where a connector actually came apart. (the bike wouldn't crank)

I used the Novello kit when installing my 16s. Was very easy and the connections are pretty solid in my opinion. Over 6k since the swap and no problems. In short, I would recommend them.

I like those extentions. Get them long enough so you can stagger the connections so there's no ball of connections in one spot. consider soldering/heatshrink the connection, so when you work them through the bars, they won't come unplugged. Check for sharp burrs where you feed the wires through so you don't tear any wire sheaths open. When you go to feed the wires through, Take a ribbon and an air gun and blow the ribbon in from the top and it'll come out the bottom now you can tie the ribbon to the wires and carefully push n pull the wires through.

Found that if you take the old throttle cable and tape the wires to that is works well to. The ball will fall to the bottom and out. Then gently pull wires through. I did cut and solder on mine with no issues. If I did it again I may go with extensions for less of a headache/time.

Has anyone swapped stock Fat Boy bars for 12.5" Chubby Apes? I don’t know what size extensions to get. Also is there a way that I can figure out what size cables / brake line I will need or will I have to put the bars on before I can order the new cables / brake line?

Call the guys at Wild 1 for cable sizes. That's what I did. As for wire extensions, I used the Namz 12" ones but I was told that you should just get the 15" and roll up any extra slack. Whichever you choose make sure you solder and shrink tube.
