Has anyone else ever had this problem? 02 Heritage and I stripped mine the vey first time I changed my fluid. It only tightens finger tight but I've been running it that way now for 85,000 miles and change it every spring, (shockproof heavy). Haven't ever noticed any leaks.
Torquing didn't have anything to do with it. It was trying to find the hole up between the two shocks. Just got crossed threaded. I like the idea of just buying a new bike. As for the helicoil, is there a way to put one of those in without removing the tranny?
It's not a cast hardened steel gear box like on a tractor, it's made out of aluminum, or an aluminum alloy. Always keep that in mind when tightening things back up.
(I do all my oil changes when the motor's cold, I just let the oil drain longer)
You should be able to carefully drill and retap it one size larger while it still on the bike. (At least any shavings won't fall into the trans if your doing it from underneath)

I had the dealer do it. cost 175.00. They did not remove the tranny. Just did it from underneath.
Mine was not a case of not doing it enough but more of a case of plain in a hurry stupidity. It's an error that cost me and will not happen again as now I pay a lot more attention and slow down even when I am in a hurry.
