Default Gearing down my Heritage

Thinking about gearing down my 07 heritage. Indy says he gets the best results going down 2 teeth on front sprocket which means I would need a shorter belt. Also my speedo will be off (read high) about 4 mph right up through to cruising speed. ( Can T-Max adjust for this? ) What I'm hoping to achieve is to have more yank down low, better throttle response and to use 6th gear at slower speeds say around 60 mph. Will I be compromising drivability? For example 1st gear feels like your on a tractor so may be starting out in second? Would like some feedback from someone who has tried it.
My bike goes pretty good right now but not quite where I want it performance wise. It makes 90 hp - 104 tourque at 9.8 - 1 comp ratio. I could bump up the comp a little and do a cam change that would get me to about 110-115 torque but the bike runs a little warm as it is when its 80 degrees plus. Luckily I live in Maine and we don't have very many hot days. Trying to figure what my best options are. Thanks in advance for your input.

I'm no mechanic but that sounds like an awful lot of hassle for a minimal return.

The difference between 2.79 and 2.97 final drive isn't so huge, but it does make a nice difference for our year bikes. I went the other way and put a 70 tooth (four teeth larger) pulley on the rear, since I had the belt adjustment and wouldn't have to replace it, and it had the desired effect - more low end and overall torque without compromising top end.

I think you'll be happy with the results.

Roger

Get a smaller compensator sprocket. They are in all the catologs. Cheaper and Easier. Does not require a new belt. Your Indy should know about this.

30t transmission belt pulley & H-D 136t (1-tooth shorter) belt. Lots of people happy with that set up.
Final Ratio: 2.97. 75mph = 2900rpm in 6th.
Andrews makes em, as does Evolution.

TTS can adjust for it, not sure about the T-Max.
(not an endorsement for TTS either)

Call zippers and they will send you a speedo calculator that tells you what numbers to put into your Tmax I did it with mine.

Yeah he does but says that front sprocket change works better.

I also asked him which way (bump up comp and cam change or gear down) would give me the most seat of the pants pull and he said definitely the gearing. I'm still wondering about how drivability will be though. Anybody out there thats tried this setup?
The sick part is that I'll probably do the cams, pushrods and comp increase eventually even if the lower gearing works really well.
