Im buyin my first harley. Im leaning towards a fatboy. Im a larger wide built guy who doesnt do sharp corners and all that. more of a cruiser. and im in a high traffic place so i could use alittle restraint.
I need to decide between the beautiful question between an evo or twinkie.
Personally I hate electonics and computer chips. Im more of a gas and metal kind of guy
My question is this:
if I go with an evo, do I loose large amount of potential horsepower that i may decide i wish i had? Iv read the efi on a twinkie keeps the power healthy no matter the speed. I dont like efi, and chips and all that and dont want it but im a power junkie. If im sacrificing potential power by not going with a efi twinkie i may think twice. is this something i should be concerned with or will the evo dish it out?
lastly, can I get a twinkie with little or no electrical components like efi? iv read about conversions for carberatur twin cams but Im looking to buy my bike without efi. is this something id need to do myself?
These questions are amateur i know but any help would be greatly appreciated...

Not sure what your riding experience is currently. I would highly suggest you go for a test ride on a few different bikes so you can get a feel for what fits you. I have seen big guys on Sporsters. It all depends on what you like.
Ride as many as you can. The only regret I have is only riding 2 bikes. Should have taken a couple more out. Although I am really happy with my bike.

Consider what kinda mods you're willing to pay for. You can make an old bike with more power than a new bike if you throw enough money at it. I have the efi 96", well 103" now i guess, and am very happy with it, but a few guys I ride with have the 88" built into 95" and pass me like I'm standing still.
Personally I like the electronics but as stated above there are plenty of great bikes out there with carbs that would get you around that.
They are no easier than the electronic fuel injected models, just different tools and skills needed to get it right. That said, there are many more indy's out there that have a drawer full of jets that can get it right than there are with spare or even cheap tuners.
Good luck with your purchase.

Me personally I think they all have plenty of power. I didn't buy a cruiser to get up to 100 faster than the next guy. I wanted a cruiser to cruise. The 96" has got plenty of power and so does the evo. I think the best thing to do is first sit down and find out how much you wanna spend, and then look for whatever bike you like in that price range and compare them and get the bike that fits you best. You can always add on performance. But to be honest if you want a lot of power it is going to be like adding on accessories, you will never be done and be completely happy with what you have you will always want more.
I have an Evo and Twin Cam powered bikes, depending on what mods you are willing to make an Evo can have as much or more hp as a Twin Cam. My Evo makes 140 hp, more than enough to put a smile on my face.

Being in customer service, the first thing you need to do is determine your customers needs.Maybe you should sit and read and think about how am I really going to be using my scooter. If you like to tinker with carbs and that brings you pleasure then you may become bored with EFI.You have five years of twin cams with carbs and years of proven EVO performance to choose from.As long as you are happy with your purchase nothing else really matters.
ok,
Im thinking if there is enough room to beef up both tc and evo than reliability will be my next issue. Im sure if I buy a 05' tc carbed motor, would i still need to change the chain tensioner or did they work that out by that year?
Im not sure how much thatll cost and im not looking to buy a bike that needs to be takin for repairs before i even drive it. and since im buying used i feel as though im playing roulette with the chances of buying one thats been sending metal down the motor.
Im alittle paranoid as you might see,
Other than that, iv heard that the twinkie will run hundreds of thousands of miles... how is long term reliability compared between the two?
most repair techs on this site say the twinkie is always in the shop...
I take trips through the west coast regularly...

Twinkies give the most HP per dollar.. EVO's are hands down more reliable... I'm riding an 84 that has never had a rebuild...flip a coin
