Got my repacement battery from Advance Auto Parts. It is identical to the Harley battery in terms of size and cranking amps. I think the same company makes them for Harley. Anyway, you can go search online for Advance Auto discount coupon, then order your battery and pick it up at a nearby store. I found a code for $35 bucks off. Total out the door price was $84. The dealer wanted $139! Worked for me. (Without the coupon the price difference was not that much)
I have used Deka batteries in the past on 97 Flsts up until I swapped to the 113 ci, then stock batteries were not working for me. Bought them from Apex batteries and saved about $40 from what I would have paid for the same battery with a MoCo label on it. I was told by one of the Indy's here years ago that Deka was one of the manufacturers for Harley. Gave them a try and found them pretty good. Got 3-4 years on average. With the higher compression on the new engine the stock size battery was falling on its face every other day so I went with an Odyssey that has 550+ CCA. On my second year with that and still going strong.
I'm surprised nobody even mentioned Sears Diehard. I have been using them in all of my vehicles for at least twenty years and they last about seven years if you keep a charge on the motorcycle battery during the winter. My chevy truck pulls a car hauler with a heavy duty electric winch and I load cars with the truck engine off and it don't even phase the battery. I still get about seven years out of every battery. Can't do any better than that.
I replaced my OEM with an Odyssey battery before this last spring. The OEM battery was getting old, Odyssey shipped for free and the replacement battery was same power but smaller......gave me a little space to mount my Fuelpak. They have gone up in price....wasn't as much when I bought as they are listing for right now.
Found the Deka battery at a local shop for $77, i'll probably give that a try
I was told the same thing; that H-D batteries are made by Deka.
I just clocked 4 years on my stock H-D battery and still no issues. I don't put a charger on it and it's still good to go. When it comes time that I do need to replace it I will confirm that Deka are the same as H-D's battery and go with that. If not, I don't have a problem paying the $129.99 I was quoted for an H-D battery if it lasts me as long and has been as problem free as my current one is.
I was in a bind battery died and was leaving the next morning on a trip to Daytona so as a last resort because nothing else was open I bought a motorcycle battery from Walmart it was like $80.00 and has been working strong for a year now I did not have much choice but couldnt be happier with the results. Guess the bike cant tell that there isnt a harley logo on the battery.
