Default Throttle cables

So I did the clutch cable on my 2000 fatboy a couple of weekends ago and it was pretty painless. Now I am wondering how hard is the throttle cable? If comparing the two is it that much harder than the clutch? I got a few questions...

1- Do you really need to drain the tank before you take it off can you just clamp off the lines and take it off? The manual talks about using a pump to get the fuel out of the reserve and the damage you can easily do to it...

2- Do you really have to mess with the front master cylinder?

3- Do you really have to take the whole throttle assembly off the handlebars? Is that as daunting as it sounds?

Reading the manual sounds like it is a big job but it made the clutch sound like a big job and it wasn't that bad. I was actually able to skip a few steps. I didn't need to take my pipes off. You don't have to adjust the clutch just the cable...

Any help on this would be great.
Thanks
Joe

The throttle cable is easier than the clutch. No need to remove the tank. Just slide it back. No need to mess with the front master cylinder either. It is much easier than it sounds.

Taller bars? I want to de-ape my FXST. Wonder how much it will cost to return the bike to stock?

The old cables were original and I wanted to replace them with the steel mesh cables. How about the throttle do you need to remove that from the handle bars?

Nope. Both are and idle are pretty much the same.

So Drew, is that no I don't have to take the throttle grip from the handlebars? Sorry to keep asking I just want to be sure before I pull it apart.
Thanks

To replace the cables, just open the throttle housing, but keep it on the bike. It's actually easier to leave it in place rather than take it off.

Good to know about the tank though. I thought you had to take it off.

I always feel like that until I'm half way through the project then I wish I'd spent the money to pay someone. That being said, I do all my own work anyway. Good luck! Remember, pics!
