I’ve been getting right at 44 around town with little highway. This has been with no windshield riding solo most of the time. This weekend the bike started out with 1060 miles on it with the windshield on and girlfriend on back (she weights around 130). First tank of gas driving highway between 65 and 75 (and a few wind ups to 90) we got 46.7mpg. Next tank was a mix of highway and the Rocky Mountains and we got 48.3. I would have thought having her on the back would bring my mileage down. Do you think the windshield helps the aerodynamics or was is more due to consistent highway riding or both?
Clammy, could your jetting just be rich? Does the engine feel hot most of the time? I'm great at jetting my dirt bikes (friends to) and I see a mpg difference when jetted lean or rich.

It is possible since I had the carb rejetted when I got the stage 1 done. But it was done before delivery, so I don't know if it's running hotter now than before. It doesn't seem to be excessively hot even in heavy stop/go traffic on hot days.
I have a couple of things I want the dealer to look at when I bring it in for the handlebar swap, so I'll tell them about my crummy mileage at that time and get them to take a look into it. Thanks.
If it doesn’t feel extra hot at times that could be a sign of running rich. If it was lean it would run hot at times, more than it should, and not getting hot could be an indicator of being rich.
I am averaging between 37 and 42 on the highway (depends on speed, headwind, passenger, etc.) and in town 30 to 33, although I did have one episode when I was out playing with the boys that I only got in the mid to upper 20's in town and short highway jaunts...

Those are the numbers I'm getting too... but we have different engines. Yours in a Evo isn;t it?
Yep, EVO.... S&S Super E, but I do have SEII's slip ons... hmmm.... could be a conspiracy between the SEII manufacturer and Big Oil.... I will have to call my friend Ms. H as they just lost the Olympics too.... Ahhh!! it is all interconnected!!!
So what method is everyone using to guage milage?
I've seen some pretty precise numbers in this thread. How can you judge it so closely
without running your tank completely dry?
re-set your tripometer when you fill up. Fill to approx. same level each time. Divide miles on tripometer by gallons (120 divided by 2.6 = 46 mpg.) Reset tripometer and do again. Art
